The paid browser planner adds food and a contingency allowance, optional flights and activities, editable quote totals, three saved plans in this browser, and a printable or downloadable summary. The version 1.3.0 spreadsheet remains an optional download, including its separate booking tracker. Browser plans and the spreadsheet do not sync.

What the numbers mean

Browser planner version 2.0 uses a 2026 planning baseline reviewed on 18 October 2026. These are modelling assumptions informed by selected published prices. They are not market averages, live availability, guaranteed quotes or verified prices for 2027. Rates for your dates may fall outside the ranges.

A seven-day trip starts with seven charged rental days and six overnight stays. Pickup and return times can change the charged rental days. For one or two travellers we model a small car, one two-berth camper and one private room. For three or four travellers we model one family car, two small two-berth campers and two rooms. A larger single camper or family room needs its own quote. All travellers are budgeted at adult rates; check child discounts, seats and sleeping capacity separately.

Low and high totals add the low and high assumptions and round outward to the nearest 1,000 ISK. They are planning scenarios, not statistical confidence intervals. Where the ranges overlap, the tool does not pick a definite cheaper option. A cost comparison is not a recommendation about road safety or vehicle suitability.

Flights, activities, parking, tolls and unentered extras are not automatically priced. Food and a default 10% buffer appear in the paid full-budget view. A buffer is an allowance, not a promise that every cost is covered. Replace only the relevant budget line with your quote, and remove any separate insurance or road-charge allowance that is already included.

Sources and assumptions

Selected references inform the model; they do not independently verify every rate. The expandable assumptions in the calculator show all default rates, driving distances, fuel-use assumptions and the single daily road-charge method. Food, fuel price, insurance and season groupings are our stated planning assumptions. The model does not fetch prices automatically.

Spreadsheet compatibility

The optional version 1.3.0 workbook was checked in LibreOffice and Excel for the web. Desktop Excel, Mac, Google Sheets and mobile spreadsheet apps remain unverified. Use a larger screen to edit it. The workbook has fictional examples, no macros and no live-price connections.

Your calculator inputs

The free comparison runs in your browser without saving your choices or sending them to us. The paid planner saves up to three plans in this browser only when you choose to save. These plans are not sent to us or synced between devices. Anyone using the same browser profile may see saved plans; avoid entering personal or payment details. You can delete saved plans in the planner. Clearing browser data may remove them, and private browsing may not retain them. Print or download a summary you want to keep. Neither calculator asks for an email address. The paid planner does not load analytics or ad-measurement scripts.

Optional analytics and ad measurement

If you allow analytics, we use Google Analytics to measure page visits, clicks to checkout and completed paid purchases. Google receives the page address, referral origin, browser/device information and pseudonymous cookie identifiers, and processes connection information such as your IP address. We do not send entered quotes, calculator results, names, email addresses or workbook contents. Only our fixed campaign labels may be included in Analytics page addresses; other query parameters and fragments are removed. If you also allow ad measurement, Google Ads receives ad-click identifiers, the order number, currency and order value excluding tax to measure advertising results. We do not send names or email addresses.

Google tags load only after you allow optional measurement. Google Ads is enabled only if you select Analytics + ad measurement; Analytics only leaves ad tracking disabled. Declining does not affect the calculator or checkout. We remember your choice in this browser for up to 60 days. Analytics and ad measurement cookies are configured to expire after 60 days without automatic renewal. User and event data retention is set to two months; aggregate reports may be retained longer. Google signals and ad personalization are disabled.

Use Measurement choices in the footer to change your decision. Declining after allowing disables collection, removes this site's Analytics and ad measurement cookies and reloads the page. Checkout and payment are handled by Lemon Squeezy under its own privacy practices. When the checkout opened on this site reports a successful paid order, we record it once using the order number. Test, free and refunded orders are excluded. A click to checkout is not a purchase. Orders completed in a separate tab or after checkout falls back to a separate page may not be recorded. Ad blockers or declining measurement can also prevent tracking. Refunds are reconciled separately in Lemon Squeezy.

The hosting service may process connection and security information when serving the pages. Links to other websites open services with their own privacy practices.

The downloadable workbook calculates locally in your spreadsheet application. If you choose to use a cloud spreadsheet service, that service’s own data handling applies. The workbook contains no macros or external-data connections.
